The young gunslingers and the West End Boy

Not the name of an upcoming movie, but a musical collaboration between a hot new band and a music industry legend.

Southend band The Trusted, just a year into their career and already on the radar of some of the big names in the music industry on both sides of the Atlantic, nicknamed ‘the young gunslingers’ by none other than BBC London indie music godfather Gary Crowley, have caught the ear – and the mixing desk - of yet another major player; musical director of The Pet Shop Boys, Pete Gleadall.

‘Cheeky Pete’ as he calls himself on social media, has been working his magic both on tour and in the studio with the synth pop duo for many years, engineering, programming and mixing their albums and overseeing their live sound around the world. Pete’s CV goes way beyond the West End Boys however, and includes some of the biggest names in the music business; with U2, David Bowie, Robbie Williams, Take That, George Michael, Kylie Minogue and Madonna among his mixing, engineering, programming and producing credits.

Pete first heard The Trusted at one of their now regular appearances at Camden’s Dublin Castle. Becoming an instant fan, Pete kept in touch with the band via Instagram and eventually approached them with a request to remix one of their tracks, their second single ‘Good to Bad’.

Taking time out after a gruelling world tour with the Pet Shop Boys, Pete sat down to work on the track and the band describes the results as ‘amazing’.

“We were blown away to attract Pete’s interest” said The Trusted lead singer, Tom Cunningham “he’s worked with some fantastic artists over the years and it was an honour to just hang out after the gig and speak to him about his experiences to be honest. We shot the video for ‘Good to Bad’ a few weeks ago and Pete asked for the files to work on a remix for us. We got the mix last week and it is amazing. He’s done a fantastic job. The song already goes down really well live, and now we’ve got a brilliant remix to add to our catalogue.”

The band will include the remix on their upcoming release schedule which will see their next single ‘Sunlight’ released on May 19th, and ‘Good To Bad – the Cheeky Pete remix’ released on May 26th , both available on Spotify, Amazon, Itunes and Soundcloud.

The Trusted were formed in 2016, with local brothers Tom and Finlay Cunningham, on vocals and bass respectively being joined by Dale Holt Mead on guitars and David Bachelor on drums. The band have been busy themselves; racking up an impressive CV of gigs already, including shows at The Dublin Castle, The Hawley Arms, The Amersham Arms, The Islington, Zigfred Von Underbelly, Nambucca, The Water Rats and the Half Moon Putney all in London, The Green Door Store in Brighton, and The Railway Hotel and Chinnerys in Southend. In addition, they have been championed by indie music guru Gary Crowley resulting in numerous radio plays on BBC London.

The band have some impressive live dates arranged so far for the summer already, including a showcase gig at The Albany Theatre in London on June 1st.

The band are being watched closely by a number of interested parties, with gigs being attended by music industry people flying in from New York and LA, alongside representatives of companies here in the UK.

Tom Cunningham: “we have some major music industry interest in us from America as well as here in the UK – I can’t talk about it in detail right now, but it really is ‘watch this space’ time.”

“It’s exciting to be involved with such big names as Pete, and we’re so grateful for his input and expertise and we’re looking forward to taking everything to the next phase.”
